| A big thanks to Laurie for contacting the Royal Air Force base in Wales. A few weeks previous to this we had attended an air show there (from a secluded area away from the crowds) unfortunately due to the worst traffic I have ever seen (at least since I went to see a space shuttle go off) instead of under 3 hours, it took us over 5 hours to get there and we missed a lot of the show, but what we did see was very cool and Tom really liked it. RAF Valley were kind enough to get back to us and offer to have Tom come down for the day for a full tour on September 26th we took a trip back down to Wales with Aunty Elaine and Toms cousins Jack The tour was great and the staff that took him around excellent, we had a real good day. He was shown just about everything, from ejector seats with survival packs to the control tower. RAF Valley is extremely busy, as a training ground there are landings just seconds apart and the sky is always packed with cool jets. We went into the control tower and had to be real quiet! We took a tour around a hanger full of hawks and he was given a run down of how they worked. One of the coolest and funniest parts was when they dressed him up in a rescue/survival suit, a fully sealed suit, walked him up to one of the hangers and let him play around in a helicopter, plus hooked him up to a winch and gave him a little spin around! After we finished at the base we stopped off and did a little crabing, with some rather nasty looking pieces of meat on a stick and these were definatly not vegetarian all the kids managed to catch a lot of crabs, some of them rather big and definatly real ugly looking. ![]() |
